5.3.2 Battery power unit powering
The battery power unit can supply power for one or two cabinets (see figure 13). This method is
suitable for smaller sized systems where the overall number of base stations is small and where PBX
power is not available and battery back-up is required.
The battery power unit supplies 272 W/48 Vdc. The load of the battery power unit should not exceed
240 W to leave enough power to charge the batteries. A cabinet uses 50 W maximum, leaving
190 W/140 W available for base stations in a single/double cabinet.
Fig. 13 Modular cabinets powered by battery power units
Depending on the cable length the battery power unit can power a single cabinet and 19 to 38 base
stations or a double cabinet and 14 to 28 base stations (38 and 28 are the theoretical number of base
stations for cables of 0 m long).
Any additional base stations shall be powered by an external source via the ‘PW-EXT’ connection on
the MCCB. When using a modular cabinet with revision R2 five extra CLUs, CLU-Ss or SLUs can be
connected, which equals 40 more base stations.
