Frames Too Long
Frames that are too long are
normally created by a bad
network controller con-
nected to the port.
Disable the port, replace
the controller, and enable
the port.
Remove the software.
Software that violates the
IEEE 802.3 specifications
can also be a source of
Frame-Too-Long errors.
Runts
Runts should not occur
unless the port connects
the repeater to a coaxial
Ethernet cable or another
10BASE-T repeater
If a port connected to a
workstation is seeing runts,
the port should be disabled.
Repeaters generate runts
by transmitting jam
sequences on all ports of
the repeater to signify that a
collision has occurred.
A repeater does not count
the runts it generates, but
does count runts coming
from another connected
repeater.
