Troubleshooting
Can’t Establish a Wireless Link between Nodes
• The nodes may have different mesh settings.
• The Received Signal Strength is not adequate for proper operation or is not above the RSSI
Threshold plus the Hsyteresis Window setting.
Poor throughput or packet loss
The most common problem you will encounter is excessive packet loss also known as dropped
packet which can occur in either over the air or on the wired Ethernet portion of the networks.
Excessive packet loss will manifest itself as low throughput.
Expected Throughout
The MetroE solution will deliver sustained Ethernet throughput of 32 mbps as measured using FTP
programs but actual performance maybe be less depending on frame sizes or network protocol
used.
When trouble-shooting performance issues it is important to consider whether the packet-loss is
occurring on the wireless link or on the Ethernet network.
Wireless packet loss can be caused by:
• Inadequate Receive Signal Strength at either end
• RF Interference from a another radio
• Multipath interference
• Faulty radio
• Inadequate power to the radio
• Radio is not grounded
Packet loss can occur on the Ethernet portion of the network if there is:
• Slow or Bad Network Equipment
• Cabling or connector problems
• Equipment is not grounded
