ARCView Mesh Management Software for MetroE Nodes
The basic ARCXtend mesh network can be installed and operated without external network
management or intervention. However, because wireless network connections are invisible,
Arcwave provides the ARCView software to provide a graphical view of the mesh topology.
ARCView enables users to monitor the network connections and performance, and to customize
individual nodes or the entire network.
ARCView can be downloaded from the Arcwave website (www.arcwave.com/support.html) and
installed on a workstation connected with an operating system such as Windows, FreeBSD, or
Linux. The workstation must be connected to the mesh and requires Java runtime software, which
you can download.
The workstation can connect directly to any MetroE node on the mesh using a standard Ethernet
cable with an RJ-45 connector. After the user fills in the login information on the ARCView opening
screen, the software connects to the mesh and begins operation.
ARCView has a graphical interface for simple and intuitive operation. The following are some of
the basic features and functions of the software.
Mesh, Inventory, Performance, and Current Faults Views
You can view the mesh network in different ways. The Mesh view provides a graphical
representation of the mesh with additional information, including graphics that show the actual
interconnections between all of the nodes on the mesh. The Mesh view remains displayed when
you select one of the different view options described below. The Inventory view lists the MetroE
nodes on the mesh. It also shows the status, location, and other information for each node. The
Performance view shows the uptime statistics and traffic information for each node. The Current
Faults view shows the status of the nodes in the mesh, identifies the number of faults detected for
each node, and shows the available Ethernet ports on each node.
Mesh Setup
You can review and change all of the mesh-wide settings using ARCView, including network,
security, wireless (radio), and user account settings.
Node Management
ARCView also provides functions to manage individual MetroE nodes on the mesh. These allow
you to change the node’s name, location information, enable or disable Ethernet ports, and view
the node’s mesh connections. You can also view details about a selected node.
You can easily add new nodes to a mesh by exporting the configuration from an existing node on
the mesh and importing it into new nodes.
Easy Updates
Periodically Arcwave will post updates to the MetroE firmware that add improvements or new
features. With ARCView, you can update all of the MetroE nodes on your mesh in a single
operation.
