Link Planning Tools
Simple range calculation software is available from Arcwave for calculating operating distances for
specific applications and more complex link modeling software is available from third-parties for
very accurate link planning and using topographical maps of the area of interest. Contact Arcwave

Locating the MetroE
The MetroE can typically be located anywhere along the HFC plant that provides a suitable
wireless path to the customer site. The hardened media converter is typically co-located with the
MetroE and connected to it using the 1 meter interconnect cable, FX5010-RJ45-1. With outdoor
rated CAT5e you can go up to 100 meters (327 feet) even when using the MetroE in power over
Ethernet power sourcing (PSE) or powered device (PD) mode. The hardened media converter can
typically be located anywhere from 10 to 40 km with 1310 nm and 100 km with CWDM (1430 to
1610) wavelengths from the head end.
