If your MacBook freezes during startup, or you see a ashing question mark, or the
screen is dark and the sleep indicator light is glowing steadily (not in sleep)
Theashingquestionmarkusuallymeansthatthecomputercan’tndthesystem
softwareontheharddiskoranydisksattachedtothecomputer.
Waitafewseconds.Ifthecomputerdoesn’tstartup,shutitdownbyholdingdownthe
power(®)buttonforabout8to10seconds.Disconnectallexternalperipheralsandtry
restartingbypressingthepower(®)buttonwhileholdingdowntheOptionkey.When
yourcomputerstartsup,clicktheharddiskicon,andthenclicktherightarrow.After
thecomputerstartsup,openSystemPreferencesandclickStartupDisk.Selectalocal
MacOSXSystemfolder.
 Ifthatdoesn’twork,tryusingDiskUtilitytorepairthedisk:

InserttheMac OS X Install DVDintoyourcomputer.
•
RestartyourcomputerandholddowntheCkeyasitstartsup.
•
Whenprompted,chooseyourpreferredlanguage.
•
Whenthenextscreenappears,chooseDiskUtilityfromtheUtilitiesmenuinthe
menubar.WhenDiskUtilityopens,followtheinstructionsintheFirstAidpaneto
seeifDiskUtilitycanrepairthedisk.
IfusingDiskUtilitydoesn’thelp,youmightneedtoreinstallyourcomputer’ssystem
