If Windows Users Can’t See the Windows Server in Network Places
If Windows users can’t see the server in my Network Places:
Make sure the user’s computer is congured for TCP/IP and has the correct Windows Â
networking software installed.
Make sure the user has guest access. Â
Go to the DOS prompt on the client computer and enter  ping <IP address>, where
<IP address> is your server’s address. If the ping fails, there is a TCP/IP problem.
If the user is on a dierent subnet from the server, make sure you have a WINS Â
server on your network.
Note: If Windows computers are congured for networking and connected to the
network, client users can connect to the le server even if they can’t see the server
icon in my Network Places.
