Image Sharpening Software for Printing
nik Sharpener Pro! is award-winning sharpening software for print enthusiasts and
professionals. Available in two versions, nik Sharpener Pr
o! Inkjet Edition is designed
to optimize prints for all inkjet printers, including small, medium, and large format
printers, while nik Sharpener Pr
o! Complete works with all print processes (inkjet,
photographic, laser, dye-sub and LED). Sharpen all of your images optimally and to the
same degree every time in just seconds. Sharpen images accurately and quickly using
inputs such as an image's size, its source, the printer’s resolution, etc. The software then
analyzes an image to determine how to
optimally sharpen it. In doing so, it consid-
ers an image's clarity, level of detail, the
colors in the image, as well as the image’s
characteristics—in order to protect these
components and to maintain the original
photographic qualities. Sharpen images for
any print size, receive warnings when images have insufficient detail or low
dpi, sharpen based on the viewing distance of the image, view the “Real
Resolution” clarity index of an image, and much more. Inkjet Edition also
includes a bonus sharpening engine and a separate interface for sharpening
Internet and screen viewed images.
Optimal Sharpening for Each Individual Image
They utilize a unique and effective feature that enables the pro-
gram to automatically sharpen an image based on the individual
characteristics of an image. The "Autoscan" process automatically
analyzes the image to optimally sharpen the image considering its
colors, detail, resolution (dpi), and the image's quality. All output
and print processes in nik Sharpener Pro! include an "Autoscan"
version of calculation engine for sharpening an image for any type
of print. By utilizing this unique feature, the program is able to
apply the right amount of sharpness to an image in a selective
fashion to optimally sharpen each image while maintaining its
photographic qualities.
Real Resolution for Images
Real Resolution clarity index is another unique feature that not
only aids in sharpening but also provides valuable information to
assess an image's quality. The Real Resolution clarity index pro-
vides a rating of the image's overall quality, considering internal
image variables, including detail, clarity, focus, color, and dpi to
provide a consistent basis for image analysis. The Real Resolution
clarity index provides a rating between 1 and 600 for each image.
Ratings for most images, however, typically fall into a range
between 100 and 300. A higher Real Resolution rating from the
original, unsharpened image indicates that the image contains
more image information, often leading to more detail in print.
Protecting and Maintaining
Photographic Qualities
nik Sharpener Pro! utilizes the most effective combination of fea-
tures to protect an image while sharpening it. nik Sharpener Pro!
contains various features for assessing the quality and overall
characteristics and then protecting color transitions, shadowing,
anti-aliasing, and specific types of detail in order to maintain an
image's original photographic qualities of the image. This feature
is integral to providing a natural look.
Integrated Warnings:
Information Before You Print
Includes a valuable analysis feature and tool for ensuring great
images. An advanced warning system warns when the clarity or
resolution (dpi) for the current image is insufficient to print the
image using the specified parameters. This system allows users to
make decisions with regard to how large they may want to print
the image, should they enlarge or "scale" that image, should they
alter how image will be printed, or might they want to rescan or
reshoot the image. When reviewing the warnings found in the
lower portion of the nik Sharpener Pro! screen, the fourth line of
the Image Information Area provides important warnings that alert
you if the image has insufficient resolution or clarity for printing
that image, considering the parameters set in the interface.
