348 Chapter 22 EVB3
When using a two drawbar hardware controller, the “Drawbar affects” menu offers an
additional mode that allows Hammond-like switching between two registrations. If you
use the default setting (“Drawbar affects current preset key”), the drawbars will always
change the registration of the currently active preset registration key. This works
differently in a real” Hammond organ, where the drawbars only affect the Bb (upper
manual) and B (lower manual) preset registrations. This allows the player to prepare a
new registration with the drawbars while playing, and then switch to the new
registration as desired.
To simulate this behavior with the EVB3:
1 Choose the “Only B & Bb key option in the Drawbar mode menu. This option enables
the upper manual drawbars to change the registration of the Bb preset key, and the
drawbars of the lower manual affect the B preset key.
2 Change the drawbars of the Bb preset key as desired. You can freely play the keyboard
while doing so, without changing the currently chosen registration.
3 Switch to the prepared registration with the Bb preset key.
MIDI Controller Assignments
MIDI controller assignments are only updated if you load the default setting or a
setting that was saved with a project. All parameters that allow you to select a MIDI
controller feature a Learn entry. If this option is selected, the parameter will
automatically be assigned to the first appropriate incoming MIDI data message. The
Learn mode features a 20 second time-out facility: If the EVB3 does not receive a MIDI
message within 20 seconds, the parameter will revert to its original MIDI controller
assignment.
Note: As the new entry is added at the top of the list, existing automation data needs
to be increased by one.
In most circumstances, the track automation of Logic Pro is your best option for the
recording of manual movements in the plug-in window.
MIDI automation is the better option when you wish to make use of your hardware
MIDI drawbar organ as a remote control for the EVB3. The following tables outline the
MIDI controller assignments of the EVB3. The assignments are optimized for use with
several popular MIDI drawbar organ models. In order to match the default settings of
all popular organs, some parameters are assigned twice. You need not concern yourself
about this.
