Chapter 23 Work in the Environment 820
Voice limiter objects
Voice limiter objects overview
A voice limiter object restricts the number of MIDI notes (1 to 32) that can be held
simultaneously. It does this by note stealing—newly arriving notes cause (some of the) currently
held notes to be turned o, once the voice limit is reached.
Create a new voice limiter
m Choose New > Voice Limiter.
Normally, you assign a voice limiter to a track, and cable its output to the instrument object that
you want to voice limit. Alternatively, you can cable it between the instrument object that you
want to voice limit and an instrument object used to represent a MIDI Out port.
Voice limiter parameters
Voice limiter objects have the following parameters:
Voices eld: Determines the maximum number of voices that can be played simultaneously.
Priority pop-up menu: Determines which notes are stolen (turned o) when the number of held
notes exceeds the limit (determined by the Voices parameter).
Last: The earliest notes (those played rst) are turned o rst.
Top: The lowest (pitched) notes are turned o rst.
Bottom: The highest (pitched) notes are turned o rst.
VelOn-Min eld: Determines the velocity value of the MIDI notes. You can dene a xed velocity
from 1 to 127.
