Chapter 23 Work in the Environment 761
Adjust the position and size of objects
Objects can be freely placed, which allows for exibility, but can lead to overlaps or
misalignments—particularly when pasting between layers. Fortunately, you can quickly clean up
object positions.
Snap objects to a grid
m Choose View > Snap Positions from the Environment menu bar.
The objects are aligned to an invisible grid.
Its useful to leave this setting turned on, but you should turn it o if you want to manually move
an object by a few pixels.
Align selected objects horizontally or vertically
m Choose Options > Clean up > Align Objects.
The upper-left object stays where it is. The position of the next object determines whether the
objects are aligned in a row or a column. If it’s to the right of the upper-left object, all objects are
aligned horizontally (in a row). If it’s below the upper-left object, all objects are aligned vertically
(in a column).
Align selected objects to the invisible grid
m Choose Options > Clean up > Positions by Grid.
Align objects using key commands
m Use the following key commands to move selected objects one pixel in the relevant direction,
even when the grid is turned on:
Object move left
Object move right
Object move up
Object move down
Resize an object
m Drag the object’s bottom-right corner.
Resize a selected object to its default value
m Choose Options > Clean up > Size by Default.
Resize selected objects using key commands
m Use the following key commands to decrease or increase the width or height of selected objects
by 1 pixel:
Object Width −1 Pixel
Object Width +1 Pixel
Object Height −1 Pixel
Object Height +1 Pixel
