Chapter 20 View and edit music notation 691
m Set the appearance of beams: Choose a value from the Beam pop-up menu. The default Slant
setting allows slanted beams. Horiz. only allows horizontal beams. Vocal prevents the display of
beams, as is typical in classical vocal parts, where notes are only displayed with ags.
m Set the color for notes: Choose a value from the Color pop-up palette. The color options are Black
(“---”), Pitch, Velocity, and the 16 colors of the Color palette. (See Colors settings on page 910.)
These settings only aect regions if the View > Colors > Normal item is chosen in the Score
Editor (the default setting).
m Set the appearance of note heads: Choose a value from the Head pop-up menu. You can display
note heads as normal, show note names or nger names, or hide the note heads completely.
The Stem Pos. and Color parameters are available when Additional Score Options is
selected in the Advanced preferences pane.
Edit assign parameters for the selected sta style
In the Assign section of the Sta Style window, do any of the following:
m Set the MIDI channel assignment for a voice: Drag the chan value up or down.
m Set the split point between voices: Drag the split value up or down.
For complete information about the Chan and Split parameters of the Sta Style window, see
Assign notes to voices and stas on page 693
Add and delete stas or voices
You can add stas to a sta style, allowing you to create a two-sta piano style from a single-sta
style, for example.
A sta can display multiple independent melodic lines, called voices. Some predened sta styles
display only a single voice, while others can display multiple voices (these are called polyphonic).
You can choose polyphonic sta styles to display multiple voices (for choirs or polyphonic
instruments), and can add voices to a sta style to display independent lines. Theoretically, a sta
style can display up to 16 independent voices (but this may not be readable).
You can also duplicate stas or voices.
Add a sta to a sta style
m Click the Add Sta button (+) in the Sta section of the Sta Style window.
A new sta is added below the selected sta. If no sta is selected, the sta is added above the
rst (highest) sta in the sta style.
Add a voice to a sta style
m Click the Add Voice button (+) in the Voice section of the Sta Style window.
A new voice is added below the selected voice. If no voice is selected, the voice is added above
the rst (highest) voice in the sta. If a sta is selected, the voice is added above the rst (highest)
voice in the sta.
Delete a voice or sta from a sta style
m Select the voice or sta in the Sta Style window, then press Delete (or choose Edit > Delete).
When you delete a sta, all the sta’s voices are deleted.
Each sta is represented by an ID number. The ID numbers are assigned automatically and
cannot be changed.
