Use automation in the Logic Pro Score Editor
You can create and edit automation data directly in the Score Editor. This is especially
useful with region-based automation, because you can see the notes that are affected. For
information about using Automation, see Overview of automation in Logic Pro.
Show automation in the Score Editor
Do one of the following:
Click the Show/Hide Automation button in the Piano Roll Editor menu bar.
Press A.
An Automation button, an Automation Parameter pop-up menu, and an Automation Mode
pop-up menu appear at the bottom of the Piano Roll Editor inspector. The colors of the text
and background of the selected Automation Mode pop-up menu item display the current
state of automation and if there is automation data present:
White text on a gray background means automation is off
Dark green text on a gray background means automation is on but there is no
existing automation data to display
Bright green text on a green background means automation is on and there is
existing automation data to display
Any existing automation is displayed in the Automation Lane under the main editor window.
Add lyrics and text
Logic Pro Score Editor lyrics and text overview
When you’re scoring a song for solo voice or for a vocal ensemble, you can add lyrics,
which are automatically aligned to notes in the score. Other types of text, such as
dynamics and other performance indications, can also be added to the score. You can add
and edit text in the Score Editor and precisely control the position of text in the score.
The Score Editor includes automatic text for song name, date, and other information; you
can also add global text that appears in both the full score and in each individual part. You
can also add notes and other symbols to multiple regions.
Add lyrics to a score in Logic Pro
You can add lyrics aligned to notes in the score using the lyric object in the Part box, which
also lets you add lyrics for multiple verses. After adding lyrics, you can adjust their vertical
and horizontal position for better readability.
If you’re working with multiple staffs, be careful to add lyrics to the correct MIDI region.
It’s recommended that you insert lyrics in Linear Score view and single MIDI region display
mode—especially when inserting more than one verse. Linear Score view also makes it
easier to select several lyric objects by dragging, to change their positions, for example.
