Change the LCD display mode
In the LCD, located in the center of the control bar, you can view the playhead position in
either time or beats, and set the project tempo, key, and time signature.
Set the display mode for the LCD
The LCD has display modes that let you view the time format in either musical units (bars
and beats) or absolute time units (minutes and seconds), independent of the time format of
the ruler. You can show additional information using the Custom display mode.
In Logic Pro, click the triangle on the right side of the LCD, then choose one of the
following from the pop-up menu:
Beats & Project: Displays the time format in bars and beats, and displays project
properties (tempo, key, and time signature).
Beats & Time: Displays the playhead position in both musical and absolute time
formats.
Beats: Displays the playhead position in musical time format.
Time: Displays the playhead position in absolute time format.
Custom: Displays the playhead position in both musical and absolute time formats,
and additional information, such as the tempo, key, project end, left and right locator
positions, MIDI In and MIDI Out status, and CPU and HD usage.
Custom display mode is available only when Show Advanced Tools is selected in the
Advanced preferences pane. The other modes (Beats and Project, Beats and Time, Beats,
and Time) are available at all user levels.
Monitor and reset MIDI events in Logic Pro
When the LCD is set to Custom, the top line of the MIDI Activity display shows the last MIDI
message received, and the bottom line shows the last MIDI message transmitted. You can
use the MIDI Activity display for checking MIDI connections. When Logic Pro receives more
than one MIDI note simultaneously, the simultaneous notes are interpreted and displayed
as chords.
Sometimes MIDI modules can continue to sound even when no note data is being sent to
them. This indicates that they have not responded to the All Notes Off messages sent by
Logic Pro.
Turn off stuck notes
In Logic Pro, do one of the following:
Click the lower section of the MIDI Activity display.
Click the Stop button twice in rapid succession.
Stop hung notes
In Logic Pro, double-click the MIDI Activity display (or use the Send discrete Note Offs
(Panic) key command).
This sends separate Note Off messages for every note, on all channels of every MIDI port.
