The existing automation data is overwritten.
Release the Volume fader after a couple of bars.6
The Volume fader once again follows existing automation data on the track.
Click the Stop button on the Transport bar (or press the Space bar) to stop playback.7

Touch mode allows you to modify the value of the chosen automation parameter
when automation is active. After releasing the fader or knob, the parameter follows
existing automation data on the track.
