abackup,orreinstallingyoursystemsoftwareusingtheMacOSXUtilitiesapplication

If your iMac freezes during startup or you see a ashing question mark
 Waitafewseconds.IfyouriMacdoesn’tstartupafteradelay,pressandholdthe
powerbutton(®)forabout5seconds,untilitshutsdown.Thenholddownthe
Optionkeyandpressthepowerbutton(®)againtostartupyouriMac.Keepholding
downtheOptionkeyuntilyouriMacstartsup,thenclickthearrowundertheiconof
thestartupdiskyouwanttouse.
AfteryouriMacstartsup,openSystemPreferencesandclickStartupDisk.Selecta
localMacOSXSystemfolder.
 Iftheproblemoccursfrequently,youmayneedtoreinstallyoursystemsoftware
(see“Repairing,Restoring,orReinstallingMacOSXSoftware”onpage44).
If your iMac won’t turn on or start up
 MakesurethepowercordispluggedintoyouriMacandafunctioningpoweroutlet.
 RestartyourcomputerwhileholdingdowntheCommand(x)andRkeys,untilthe
computerrestarts.WhentheMacOSXUtilitiespaneappears,selectanoptionto
repairyourdisk,restoreyoursoftware,orreinstallMacOSXandAppleapplications.
