Power Mac G4 Cube Troubleshooting
Symptom Charts
DVD Player
When Apple DVD Player is opened, an alert box appears with this message:
"Apple DVD Player can not open because the required hardware was not
found"
1. Quit all open applications and reopen Apple DVD Player.
2. Restart the computer and reopen Apple DVD Player.
3. Using Extensions Manager, select Mac OS 9.x All and restart.
4. If the symptom persists, perform a clean installation of the Mac OS and try again.
5. Ensure all the connections to the DVD-ROM drive are secure. (Apple DVD Player
cannot open if a DVD-ROM drive is not present.)
6. If all software troubleshooting has not resolved the issue, try replacing the DVD-ROM
drive.

USB Devices
No response when keys are pressed on the keyboard
1. Make sure the keyboard is connected to a USB port.
2. Remove all USB devices, except the keyboard and mouse.
3. Start up the computer with extensions off. If the issue is resolved, troubleshoot
extensions.
4. Start up the computer from the Software Restore disc that came with the computer
and test. Reinstall system software.
5. Replace the keyboard.
At system startup time, the pointer does not move with the Apple Pro Mouse
1. Disconnect and reconnect the mouse securely to the keyboard.
2. If the mouse is connected to keyboard, connect the mouse to one of the USB ports on
the computer instead. If the mouse works, replace the keyboard.
3. Start up from the Software Restore disc or use the Extensions Manager control panel
to start up the computer with the Mac OS All 9.x extensions set. If OK, troubleshoot
extensions. If the pointer doesn't move, replace the mouse.
