eMac Installing or Replacing the AirPort Card Follow the instructions in this sheet carefully. Failure to follow these instructions could damage your equipment and void its warranty. Note: Written and video instructions covering customer-installable parts are available at http://www.info.apple.com/installparts/. Tools Required The only tool required for this procedure is a Phillips screwdriver. Note: The AirPort Card is installed behind the optical drive door shown below.
Installing the AirPort Card 1. Save open documents and quit open applications. 2. Press the Media Eject key on the keyboard to open the access door. 3. The drive tray will open.
4. Turn the computer off by choosing Shut Down from the Special menu (if using Mac OS 9), or choose Shut Down from the Apple menu ( if using OS X). 5. Loosen the captive screws on the AirPort access panel using a Phillips screwdriver.
6. Remove the panel and unhook the antenna from the panel. 7. With the logo facing down, insert the AirPort card partially into the slot, then connect the antenna firmly to the card.
8. Push the AirPort card all the way into the slot and tuck the antenna inside the slot. 9. Tuck the plastic pull-tab on the AirPort card into the computer.
10. Replace the AirPort access panel and tighten the screws. 11. Press the Power button on the computer to turn it on. Warning: Never turn on the computer unless all of its internal and extra parts are in place. Operating the computer when it is open or missing parts can be dangerous and could damage your computer.
Replacing the AirPort Card 1. Save open documents and quit open applications. 2. Press the Media Eject key on the keyboard to open the drive tray access door. 3. The drive tray will open.
4. Turn the computer off by choosing Shut Down from the special menu (if using Mac OS 9), or choose Shut Down from the Apple menu ( if using OS X). 5. Loosen the captive screws on the AirPort access panel using a Phillips screwdriver. 6. Remove the AirPort access panel door.
7. Locate the plastic pull-tab (that is tucked inside the slot). Pull the tab to access the AirPort card. 8. Disconnect the AirPort antenna from the AirPort card. 9. Remove the defective AirPort card from the slot. 10. Install the replacement AirPort card. Follow steps 7-11 located under “Installing the AirPort Card”.
