Changing Engine Settings

Changing the Port Assignment
By default the Kurzweil 3000 Engine uses port 5001 to communicate with its
clients. In some instances, you might have another software application on
the Engine computer that also uses this port, and this may cause erratic
operation. If you think you have a problem with the port assignment, please
contact Kurzweil 3000 Technical Support for assistance, at 1-800-894-5374.
Changing the Client Login Method
The Client Login Method setting determines how Kurzweil 3000 Network
accounts are created and how users access Kurzweil 3000 Network from
client machines.
By default, the Select from Kurzweil 3000 User List is selected. This
method causes Kurzweil 3000 clients to display the Log In window each time
the application starts up. Users then select their name from the Users menu.
This selection is recommended in situations where individual users do not
have unique Macintosh accounts, but instead all log on to the Macintosh
under a single account, for example, 2ndPeriodStudents.
New users can be added using the Administrator’s Add command, and, if the
Allow Clients to Create Accounts option is selected, from client computers.
If you select Use Client Computers Login, the Engine creates accounts
based on Macintosh account User Names. With this option, users are
automatically logged on to the Kurzweil 3000 Network.
When a new user tries to access Kurzweil 3000, the Engine automatically
creates a new account, if Allow Clients to Create Accounts option is
selected.
If the Allow Clients to Create Accounts option is deselected, you must
enter each user’s Macintosh account name using the Administrator’s Add
command. This selection is recommended in situations where each user has
a unique Macintosh account.
