Contrast (
O
) and brightness (
¤
) controls on the front of the monitor don’t appear
to work.
m For Mac OS–based computers, your monitor may have th e contrast (
O
)
and brightness (
¤
) controls disabled. Click the Color button in the
Monitors & Sound control panel and select Preferences. Under Calibration
Protection, make sure that the checkbox to disable contrast and brightness
controls is not marked; then, click OK.
The screen doesn’t dim when Energy Saver or other energy-saving software is on.
m Make sure the energy-savi ng software is installed properly a nd the amount
of t ime you’ve set up to trigger it has passed. For Mac OS–based
computers, see “Conservi ng En ergy” in Chapter 2 for more i nformation.
For Wi ndows-based computers, see the ma nual that came with your
energy-saving computer.
The screen flickers.
m Make sure the monitor cable is connected firmly to th e correct port on the
back of the computer.
m The flickering could b e caused by interference from a nearby power lin e
or electrical equipment—for example, a radio, a microwave oven, or
anoth er computer. Try relocating nearby electrical equipment, or moving
your computer and monitor.
m If you have more than one monitor attached to your computer, the monitors
might b e interferi ng with one another. Make sure you’re usi ng a shielded
ADB connector cable. Move the monitors farther apar t or set the monitors
at an a ngle, so their screens are close and their back pa nels are far ther
apar t. If, after moving th e monitors more than 16 i nches apart, you still see
flickeri ng, contact an Apple-authorized dealer or service provider.
m If you are using a video card that has a very low refresh rate (b elow 67 Hz),
th e monitor may flicker. You may be able to change the refresh rate for the
card. If possible, use a 75 Hz setting. See th e manual that came with your
video card for more information.
