Image Adjustments
Use the following controls to adjust brightness, contrast, saturation, and image sharpness.
In addition, you can click the Loupe button to spot check adjustments and image sharpness
before printing.
Loupe button
Brightness slider and value slider: Specify a brightness setting so that the printed image
matches the display’s output as closely as possible. Because displays illuminate images,
images shown on a display tend to appear more luminous than when printed. Increasing
the brightness value can compensate for this difference. A typical setting ranges
between 1.1 and 1.2.
Contrast slider and value slider: Apply additional contrast to the image using the Contrast
slider and value slider. Some printers have a tendency to print images a bit “washed
out.” Adding additional contrast can enhance the tonal values where they otherwise
would have appeared flat.
Saturation slider and value slider: Increase or decrease image saturation using the
Saturation slider and value slider.
Sharpen checkbox: Select this checkbox to apply a sharpening adjustment to the printed
image. Use the Amount and Radius sliders and value sliders to modify the parameters
of the Sharpen adjustment.
Sharpen Amount slider and value slider: Specify the amount of sharpness applied to the
printed image. Because images appear sharper onscreen than they do in print, a sharpen
adjustment is often necessary to make the printed image match the image that appears
onscreen.
Sharpen Radius slider and value slider: Specify the area over which the sharpening
adjustment is applied (the distance, in pixels, that Aperture uses to evaluate sharpness).
Loupe button: Click this button to open the Loupe. Use the Loupe to zoom in to the
image to ensure that the additional adjustments you’ve applied to it meet your
expectations.
Tip: Its a good idea to use the Loupe to check image detail when applying Sharpen
adjustments, to verify that you haven’t sharpened the image too much.
