Specifications
After replacing the driver, power up the speaker system and play some pro-
gram material through it before replacing the grille.Verify that the new driv-
er is operating properly. If the system still exhibits problems, it may need
additional service work.
(3) Amplifier Removal & Replacement
Before attempting service work, be certain to disconnect the power cable
from the unit. Lethal voltages are present inside the enclosure when the unit
is connected to an AC mains supply!
The amplifier package is attached to the inside of a large rear plate, accessi-
ble only from the rear of the loudspeaker. The plate is held in place by six-
teen (16) 10-32 Torx drive fasteners.
CAUTION: These are not Allen-drive fasteners! You will need the proper
sized Torx driver to remove and replace the fasteners.
Once the fasteners are free, the plate can be removed. Because the gasket
tends to stick, two threaded holes are provided at each side near the cen-
terline. By threading a fastener into each of these holes, the panel will be
forced outwards and will break its seal with the gasket. The fasteners can
then be used to lift the panel away from the enclosure.
Once free, the amplifier assembly can be easily disconnected from the driv-
ers.All other cables and connections are contained within the panel assem-
bly.The entire assembly can be replaced in a matter of minutes by reversing
the removal process. Make sure to tighten the fasteners gradually in a cross-
pattern, to avoid warping the enclosure material.
The two integrated amplifier/power supply assemblies can be removed and
replaced easily (there is only one assembly present in the APL-SB).They are
held in place by six (6) 6-32 Torx drive fasteners. Each amplifier and power
supply assembly connects to the processor housing through signal and power
cables that plug into associated sockets on the amplifier and power supply.
Normally, the processor should not be removed under field conditions. If the
processor is determined to be malfunctioning, replace the entire panel
assembly.
