intendedtobecompletefirst‐aidprocedures,itisabriefandisonlytobeusedasareference.It
isthedutyofallpersonnelusingtheequipmenttobepreparedtogiveadequateEmergencyFirst
Aidandtherebypreventavoidablelossoflife.
TreatmentofElectricalBurns
1. Extensiveburnedandbrokenskin
a. Coverareawithcleansheetorcloth.(Cleanestavailableclotharti‐
cle.)
b. Donotbreakblisters,removetissue,removeadheredparticlesof
clothing,orapplyanysalveorointment.
c. Treatvictimforshock asrequired.
d. Arrangetransportationtoahospitalasquicklyaspossible.
e. Ifarmsorlegsareaff ectedkeepthemelevated.
NOTE:
Ifmedicalhelpwillnotbeavailablewithinanhourandthevictimisconsciousandnot
vomiting,givehimaweaksolutionofsaltandsoda:1levelteaspoonfulofsaltand1/2
levelteaspoonfulofbakingsodatoeachquartofwater(neitherhotorcold).Allow
victimtosipslowlyabout4ounces(ahalfofglass)overaperiodof15minutes.Dis‐
continuefluidifvomitingoccurs.(Donotgivealcohol.)
2. Lesssevereburns‐(1st&2nddegree)
a. Applycool(noticecold)compressesusingthecleanestavailable
clotharticle.
b. Donotbreakblisters,removetissue,
removeadheredparticlesof
clothing,orapplysalveorointment.
c. Applycleandrydressingifnecessary.
d. Treatvictimforshockasrequired.
e. Arrangetransportationtoahospitalasquicklyaspossible.
f. Ifarmsorlegsareaff ectedkeepthemelevated.
