Repairsforaleakoriginatingatathreadedjointmaybeinitiallyattemptedbytighteningtheaff ectedjointwithout
drainingthesystem.Ifthistighteningeffortdoesnotcorrecttheproblem,thenthesystemmustbedrained,the
problemareaopenedandreplumbedasnecessary,followedbyasystemrefilland
test.
b. Probablythesinglemostimportantmaintenancestep:Inspectthebottomoftheheatexchangerbi‐
monthly.Inspectthecoilitselfforanydebristhatmayhavebecometrappedonthecoilface.Thiswould
blockairflowand decreasecoolingefficiencyoftheheatexchanger.Debriscanberemovedusinga
hose
andpressurizedwatersystem.Industyenvironmentsorareaswhereanabundanceofvegetationispresent
thisinspectionwillberequiredweekly
c. Toachieveevenusagetimeperunitandascertainthatback‐upintegrityexists,itisrecommendedthatthe
pumpsinthepumpmoduleareoperatedalternatelyonemonthatatime.
d. Checkthepumpmodulepressuregaugetoensurethataconsistentstablepressureisindicated.
e. Inspectandcleanthefiltrationloop.
f. Checkflowrate.

CommercialGrade"DowthermSR‐1InhibitedEthyleneGlycol‐basedHeatTransferFluid"istherecommendedheat
transferfluidtobeusedfortheliquidportionofthecoolingsystem.SR‐1canbepurchasedfromHarrisin55Gallon
lotsusingthefollowingpartnumber:
051‐1010‐002‐SR‐1,100%concentrate
Automotivegradeantifreezeisnotrecommendedduetothesiliconadditiveswhichcancauseincompatibility
problemswithpumpsealsandothercomponentswithinasystem.
Duetoatendencyoftheglycoltobreakdownovertimewhenmixedwithchlorinatedwater,itisrecommendedthat
distilledwaterbeusedforthesolution.
Thelifeexpectancyofa“SR‐1”systemcanbeaslongas10‐15yearsforacleansysteminstalledandmonitoredper
therecommendedprocedures.
Glycolsareexcellentpenetrants.Systemstestedwithwaterandcheckedtobetightsometimeswillleakwhenglycol
solutionsarethenadded.Recheckthesystemforleaksafterinstallingthe glycolmixture.
