b.2.2 Pipe Sizing and Routing
Ifatypicalsystemlayoutisnotused,thetypicalplumbinglayoutshouldstillbeconsultedforpipesizeinformation
andconnectiondetailsandtechniquesattheamplifiercabinets,RFloads,pumpmoduleandoutsideheat
exchanger.Acustomplumbinginstallationmustnotundulyrestrictflowratesorchangethedesign
ofthecooling
system.Locatetheplumbingsothataccesstotransmittersystemcomponentsisnotrestricted.
Note
Pipes must be sized no smaller than shown on the typical plumbing layout drawing. Their routing should
minimize turns and long runs.
Ifadditionalamplifiercabinetsaretobeaddedtothesysteminthefuture,considertheseplanswhensizingand
layingoutthecoolingsystem.Doingsonowmayslightlyincreasetheinstallationcost,butwillgreatlylowerthecost
ofconversionlater.
Theplumbinglinesmustbetype“M”harddrawncopperwithsoftsilversolderedjoints(96.5%Tin,3.5%Silver;
Aladdin#450silversolderorequivalent).Anadequateamountofsoftsilversolder(Harrispart086‐0004‐038)is
suppliedwiththeplumbingkit.Goodsilverbrazedjointsareacceptablebutnot
required.Apoorlydonebrazedjoint
ismuchhardertorepairthanasoftsilversolderjoint.
b.2.3 Standard Coolant Plumbing Practices
Goodplumbingequipmentinstallationpracticeisrequiredtoensuresystemintegrity.Appropriatelymeasured,cut,
deburred,supportedandsolderedcopperpipesections,facilitatemechanicalintegrityofthecoolanttransportation
system.The“glue”thatholdsthesystemtogetherisqualitysoldering.
Thisprocessincludesthe needtoconditionallsurfacestobesolderedbythoroughcleaningwithemeryclothora
non‐sudsingscouringpad,withanevenapplicationofflux,liquidfluxbeingpreferred.Thisappliestoallcommon
surfacesofplumbingfittingsandstraightpipesections.Anyimproperlycleanedand
poorlyfluxedsurfaces,either
