a.5.1 Alternate Cleaning Method
Thefollowingisanalternateproceduretocleanthesolderedtransmissionline.Thefollowingmaterialsareneeded.
• WaterandHose
• SmallPaintBrush
• RubberGloves
• ScotchBritePadorBBQGrillCleaningPadWithHandle
• NavalJelly(orequivalentrustremover).

NAVAL JELLY CONTAINS PHOSPHORIC ACID AND CAN BE DANGEROUS IF IT
COMES IN CONTACT WITH SKIN OR EYES OR IF IT IS SWALLOWED. READ AND
FOLLOW THE PRECAUTIONS AND EMERGENCY PROCEDURES ON THE NAVAL
JELLY CONTAINER BEFORE USING.
1. Aftersolderingtheflange,diptheendofthelineintowaterorsprayitwithahoseuntilitis
cool.
2. Usingasmallpaintbrush,applyacoatingofNavalJellytothetorchblackandfluxscaleon
theoutsideandinsideoftheline.LettheNavalJellysetfrom10to20minutes.
3. ScrubthelinewithScotchBriteortheBBQGrillpadtoloosenthetorchblackandfluxscale.
4. FlushwithwateruntiltheNavalJellyresidueisgone.
5. Repeattheprocessuntilallthetorchblackandfluxscaleisremoved.
ThefirstapplicationoftheNavalJellywillremovethetorchblackandsomeofthefluxscale.Normally,ifvigorous
scrubbingisdone,repeatingtheprocessasecondtimewillcompletelycleantheline.
