twodrivermodulesandsixteenPAmodules.Notethatthepredriveranddrivermodulesareredundant.
1.2.3 TransmitterControlSystem
TheMaxivatransmitterusesasimplifiedcontrolsystemthatminimizesthenumberofmicroprocessors.Each
transmittersub‐systemisresponsibleforitsownmonitoringandprotectionandsimplyreportsbacktotheTCU
(transmittercontrolun it) fordisplayontheGUI(GraphicalUserInterface)ortoaremoteinterface.Inmulti
‐cabinet
systemstheTCUincabinet1functionsasthemaincontrollerwhiletheTCUineachamplifiercabinetactsasaslave
controller.ThecabinetoneTCUcontainstheGUIdisplayforthetransmitter.AdditionalPAcabinetsdonotcontain
GUIscreens.
ThesystembusoriginatesinMCM(mastercontrollermodule)insidethecabinetoneTCUandgoestotheTCU
locatedineachamplifiercabinet.ThesystembusisusedtotransfertelemetryinformationbetweenTCU s.
ThecabinetbusissimilartothesystembusbutitconnectsthecabinetTCU(MCMcard)toallofthenodesinside
eachindividualcabinet.IfsystembuscommunicationswiththemasterTCU(incabinetone)areinterruptedthe
cabinetbusallowseachcabinettooperateindependently.
TheheartofthecontrolsystemistheTCUwhichisresponsibleforcontrol,monitoringandprotection.TheTCU
containstheMCM(mastercontrollermodule)whichcontrolsallcriticaltransmitterfunctionsandthePCM
(processorcontrolmodule)whichprovidesenhancedmonitoringandcontrol,exciterandcabinetdatacollection,
faultlogsand
webremoteconnectivity.InadditiontotheMCMandPCMtheMaxivamainTCUcontainssixmodular
cardsforthefollowingsub‐systems:
• PAInterface‐ProvidesinterfacebetweenTCU,IPA(driver)andPAbackplaneboards.Theinterfacefeatures
fortydigitaloutputs/inputsandtwenty‐fouranalogoutputsandinputs.Afullypopulatedcabinetwillrequire
twoPAinterfacecards,onecardpereightPAmodules.ThePAinterfacecardsendstheON/OFFcommandsto
the
PAmodulesandreceivesfaultinformationandstatusfromthem.
• RFDetector/PumpControl/Interlocks‐Consistsofamainboardandadaughtercard.ItfeaturessevenRMS
detectorswithadjustabletrippoints(viaEPOTS).IthaspumpcontrolandinterlocksononeD25pinconnec

torand,foranalogversions,interfacestoanoptionalanalogdowncoverterboardviaanotherD25connector.
• CustomerI/O‐Providesparallelremotecontrol,statusandmeteroutputs.ConnectorAhasallinputsand
connectorBhasalloutputs.
• ExciterSwitch‐ContainsPWB(printedwiringboard)relay,twoRMSdetectorswithadjustabletrips(via
EPOTs...electronicpotentiometer)forpowermonitoringandacontrol/statusinterfaceforexcitersAandB.
• PSMonitor‐MonitorsAClinesforphaseimbalanceandhighorlowvoltage,coolantinlet/outlettempera‐
ture,coolantflow,leaks,combinertemperatureandcabinetfans.
TCU’ salsocontainthefollowingcomponents:
• Base‐Plane‐providesacommonbusforcustomplug‐incards
• PowerSupplyModules‐tworedundantinternalpowersupplymodules.
• StandardMasterControlModule(MCM)‐FPGAbasedcontrollerusedforallcriticaltransmittercontrolfunc‐
tions.
• LED’s‐standardfrontLEDmimicdisplaypanel.
• ProcessorControlModule(PCM)‐ARMbasedmicromodulerunningembeddedLinuxOS.Itprovidesatouch
screenforenhancedmonitoringandcontrol,exciterandmulti‐cabinetdatacollection,faultlogsandweb
remoteconnectivity.
• GraphicalUserInterface(GUI)frontpanelPC‐5.25"color1/4VGAtouchscreenthatispresentonlyinthe
mainTCU(cabinetoneinmulticabinetsystems).
1.2.4 TransmitterRFPowerControl
ThePAmodulesoperatewithoutgainorleveladjustment.ThetransmitterRFpowercontrolisdoneviathephase
andgainboardlocatedinthepredrivermodules.ThepredriveroutputisdirectlycontrolledbytheTCUin"Auto
PowerControlMode".
Eachcabinetcanalsobeplacedinthe"ManualPowerControlMode".Inthismodetheautomaticlevelcontrolis
disabled.
