MOXA W2150
Digi connect wi sp
There are several “wireless device servers” on the market
offering wireless connectivity over RS232 through a “Virtual
Coms Port”.
We have tested the following model: MOXA NPort W2150
- Use the RJ45/SUBD9 cable to connect the WIFI device
to the DMS26 or the BVNET ADAPT interface.
- Switch on the W2150 using an Ethernet cable
connection rather than WiFi whilst the device is being
configured.
- Install the NPortSearch software on the CD ROM
provided
- Click on “search” to launch the program
- Right-click on the line where the adapter appears to
open the “Console” menu (W2150 configuration page
open in Internet Explorer (do you mean the web
browser?)
- Select the IP address in “network settings”, “wlan
configuration”, “wlan”.
- If the device is to be integrated into an existing
network, and the WiFi router offers DCHP, select
“DCHP” which will allocate an IP address
automatically. However , if the WiFi network allows it, it
is better to enter a fixed IP address manually.
- Configure Mode, SSID and Channel according to the
WiFi network parameters (select “infrastructure” mode
if the network has a WiFi hot spot and one or several
computers)
- Click “submit”
- Return to “WLAN Configuration”, “security” to
configure security parameters, and click again on
“submit” to save changes.
- Click “Save/Restart” to save all changes
- Unplug the Ethernet cable from the W2150 and reboot
the device by unplugging it from the mains and
restarting.
- Install the COM driver (minimum v1.6, check for most
recent version on www.moxa.com)
- Launch “Windows Driver manager”
- Ensure that this is performed AFTER you have
configured the wireless network, otherwise the COM
port will take the IP address of the Ethernet cable.
- Click on “Add”, then “Rescan” to select the NPort
peripheral device which should appear on the list.
- Click “OK”. The software will ask if you wish to activate
this port.
- Click “Yes” (make a note of the number of the COMS
port you’ll need to select it in the Podware software
later)
- Connect the DMS26 or BVNET ADAPTER to the RS232
port.
- Launch the Podware software and configure the
COM port (select the virtual COM port you have just
created)
- The DMS26 processor should now all be connected
wirelessly!
