CD Automation Systems
If the SMARTCASTER is used as a CD automation system, wire the reset terminals from the Silence
Sense to the Local Break input on the 37 pin connector:
Music on Hard Drive or Satellite Automation
In these automation systems, it is best to reset the SMARTCASTER computer. If wiring a Silence Sense
to a brand new SMARTCASTER, there should be a port labeled, ‘RESET’ on the back of the computer.
If not, it is not difficult to make one.
Open the SMARTCASTER case. Follow the wires from the reset button on the front of the case down to
the motherboard connection labeled,RESET’. These wires must be spliced so that they are connected
both to the motherboard, and a connection on the back of the computer. On the backside of the
SMARTCASTER, between the cards and the power supply, are several punch-out panels. When punched
out, 9-pin and 25-pin D-connectors can be placed in these punched-out holes. Simply connect the spliced
leads from the reset wires to two pins on a D-connector. Now take an opposite-gender D-connector, and
on the same two pins, run a line to the RESET terminals on the underside of the Silence Sense.
Operation
The Silence Sense must have audio present to be armed. Once armed, 30 seconds of silence must be
present to trip the RESET relay. In addition, it might be a good idea to wire a disable switch to one leg of
the RESET line. There are times where someone might need to disable the Silence Sense. (Ex: Console
is off line for maintenance.)
