Test of Installation
There is a simple way to test the installation of the Watchdog. Located on the keyboard of the
SMARTCASTER is a “PAUSE” key. If this key is pressed, it locks the microprocessor of the
SMARTCASTER until another key is pressed. To run the test, simply press the Pause key in a portion of
the SMARTCASTER program that has armed the Watchdog. If the installation has been performed
correctly, the Watchdog should reset the computer after 20-30 seconds.
Modems with PC Anywhere ™
If the SMARTCASTER is installed with an Optional 14.4K baud modem, it can be controlled with
another IBM compatible computer from a remote location. Now, you can program the SMARTCASTER
from your own home!
A direct phone line, without any RF interference, should be connected to the RG-11 phone connection
labeled “TO JACK” on the back of the SMARTCASTER. If desired, a phone can be connected to the
“TO PHONE” connection located just above the “TO JACK connection.
PC ANYWHERE is the software used to access the SMARTCASTER once the modem answers the phone.
Please read the manual included with this software. In a nutshell, the SMARTCASTER answers the
phone via PC ANYWHERE. Once a connection is established with the remote computer, and a password
has been entered, the C prompt appears. At this point, simply type the word, “GO” to access the
SMARTCASTER’s main menu.
CAUTION: NEVER CALL OR HANGUP THE SMARTCASTER AND LOGIN DURING THE
RECORDING OR PLAYBACK OF AUDIO! This causes the computer to freeze in its tracks
momentarily. On the air, short pauses, or ‘burps,’ are heard in the audio. It is fine to be using the modem
during playback and record, but the ‘burping’ occurs if someone is trying to actually login or hangup
during audio playback or record.
In addition, if the SMARTCASTER is to be automated, make sure not to hang up from within Live Assist.
