Front Panel
There are several switches and LED’s on the front of the SmartTouch that merit explanation. The left-
most LED is the power light. When the SmartTouch is plugged in, this light should be on. There is no
power switch. The next button is the Reset button. If for any reason, the system needs to be reset, simply
push this button. The SmartTouch goes off hook for a few seconds, and then is ready to accept calls. The
next switch is the Security Defeat switch. When switched on, the Sec. Defeat LED will light, and the
SmartTouch no longer needs a security code. When the announcer calls, the air cue is immediately heard
in the ear piece. From this point, just a remote number is needed to go on the air. No security code needs
to be typed. (Obviously, this is a dangerous situation. We recommend that the switch always be off.)
Front Panel of SmartTouch.
There are two volume knobs located on the SmartTouch. These control volume into the earpiece of the
phone at the remote site, and volume from the phone-line to the system outputs. Please note that when the
announcer hears the cue at the remote site, the audio is silent for 20 milliseconds, every two seconds. This
is to insure that DTMF tones are able to be received by the SmartTouch if the Cue Level is too loud.
The 7-segment LED light will show a number when the corresponding button is pushed on the phone at
the remote site. The Security LED illuminates when the announcer has called in, and has successfully
typed in the four security numbers. The Sec. Defeat will light when the Security Defeat switch is on.
(Thus, no security code is needed.) The Off Hook LED is lit when the SmartTouch answers the phone.
We do recommend a dedicated phone line for SmartTouch. Do not connect the SmartTouch to an
extension of an internal phone system - only to a phone line direct from the telephone company.
Connection to a digital system may damage the unit.
