Input wiring
AMX 8x4 Switcher - rear view.
Audio inputs can either be balanced or unbalanced. Balanced audio should be connected to the ‘+’ and ‘-‘
terminals. The shield can be connected to the Ground terminal. With unbalanced connections, the ‘hot’
line or center conductor should be connected to the ‘+’ terminal. The shield should then be connected to
Ground. The ‘-‘ terminal is not used in the case of unbalanced connections.

Try to connect satellite feeds starting with input #1, and working upwards. The upper inputs should be
used for special SMARTCASTER connections if possible.
SMARTCASTER Air Out Connection to 8x4 Switcher
To conserve inputs on the control board, the SMARTCASTER Air output can be mixed with the satellite
feeds using the 8x4 Switcher. Simply connect the SMARTCASTER Air output to input 8 of the 8x4
Switcher. If the SMARTCASTER Air output is using a dBX product, connect the Air output to the dBX
input, and the dBX output to input 8 of the AMX Switcher.
Next, enter the ‘Options Setup’ from the Setup menu, or at the C:> prompt, type OSETUP. Option 16, “
Is SMARTCASTER audio fed through AMX input 8?” should be set to ‘Y’. If it currently set to ‘N’,
type 16 and press e. Next, just type Y and e.
When this feature is implemented, the SMARTCASTER always leaves input 8 on. Thus, when Local
Breaks or Functions are played, the SMARTCASTER plays this audio through input 8. During Local
Breaks, the SMARTCASTER turns off inputs 1-7 from output 1 in order to mute any Network feeds. (It
does not remove these Networks from any other output in case an Unattended Record is in progress.)
