Unattended Record
Often, with Ultimation, a station simply wishes to air a news feed at the top of the hour. If the news is
pre-recorded with the Unattended Record feature of the SMARTCASTER, no switching device is needed.
Consult ‘UNATTENDED RECORD RELAY’ of the OPERATIONS section of this manual for further
information.
Generation 2000
The Generation 2000 SMARTCASTER line simplifies installation between several SMARTCASTERS.
Using a digital LAN Network, several SMARTCASTERS can be linked together in order to share hard
drives. Any audio recorded on one SMARTCASTER is instantly accessible to other SMARTCASTERS
on the Network. No analog or digital dub is necessary. Using Generation 2000 technology, any system
can play audio from any hard drive on the Network. Generation 2000 can be used for any combination of
satellite, CD, or music on hard drive automation.
Installation of LAN cable
Installation of a Generation 2000 system is similar to most SMARTCASTER systems. However, before
beginning anything else, the LAN Network must be up and running. To do so, RG58-U coaxial cable
needs to be run from computer node to computer node in a daisy-chain fashion.
Generation 2000 wiring with RG58-U coaxial cable.
At each SMARTCASTER terminal, there should be a male BNC connector. Supplied with each terminal
should be a BNC T-Connector. The leg of the T-Connector should be female, and each end should be
male. Connect the female leg of the T-Connector to the BNC connector on the SMARTCASTER. After
crimping a female connector on the RG58-U cable, connect it to one male connection of the T-Connector.
The other male connection of the T-connector should be connected to one of two possibilities: (1) If this
node is to be connected to another node further down the line, connect the next run of RG58-U. (2) If this
