Jock-In-the-Box CD Automation System

The Jock-In-the-Box CD automation system requires some change of wiring from conventional satellite
automation systems. With CD automation, comes the advent of dual processing. The main
SMARTCASTER computer is the brain of the entire system and also stores all the digital audio recorded
on the hard drive. A CD controller computer is used to “talk” with the CD players in order to cue, play,
and stop songs. (This computer does not need a keyboard or monitor.) The CD controller alleviates the
processor time needed to control and monitor CD players from the main SMARTCASTER. This provides
for a very reliable system. Often, the CD automation systems are also sold with a Remote Production
Unit. This unit allows the station to record spots, PSA’s, etc. from the production room. (The computer
also comes in handy for any playlist generation programs used in conjunction with the CD
system.)
