you may audition one audio cut in cue while playing back another audio cut over the air. It is
recommended that the ‘AUDITION’ output be wired into the console - not directly into some cue
speakers. If wired into the board, the broadcaster is capable of dubbing spots from the SMARTCASTER
to an alternative media source.
End of Message Relay
An End of Message, (EOM), relay closure is provided on the SMARTCASTER. This closure occurs at
the end of the last spot played in a Local Break. The EOM closure is sometimes used in situations where
the SMARTCASTER is “slaved” to another automation system. This relay closure can be accessed from
pins 10 and 11 on the 37- pin connector. SMARTCASTERS with Simultaneous Playback and Record
have this feature turned off. If the EOM relay closure needs to be enabled, contact SMARTS Broadcast
Systems or refer to the Setups Appendix in this manual. In SatPak based systems, this feature is shipped
in the “on” position. However, if relay 7 is needed for other purposes, contact SMARTS to turn the
feature off.
Unattended Record Relay
A latching relay closure during Unattended Recording is also provided on the SMARTCASTER. This
relay is closed for the duration of an Unattended Record. For example, it could be utilized to mute the
output audio for systems without the Simultaneous Playback and Record Option. In this manner, the
audio being recorded would not be played on the air. Secondly, the relay could be used to pull in a
different audio source into the audio inputs of the SMARTCASTER. For example, the audition side of the
console could be the normal input to the SMARTCASTER, but during Unattended Recording sessions,
relay 6 could fire a four-pole, double throw relay to route in a Brownfield news report. Note: Any relays
wired to the SMARTCASTER should be diode protected! (See example below.)
