General safety Carefully read the entire manual before use. Failure to follow the instructions carefully could lead to serious injury and damage to the appliance. Do not remove any labels from the appliance After unpacking the appliance ensure that all components of the appliance are free from damage which may have occurred during transit. Do not attempt to assemble and use the appliance if any part of the appliance has been damaged in any way. All damaged parts must be replaced before use.
Personal safety We recommend that the user wears safety equipment at all times when using the appliance. Never operate the appliance whilst under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medications. Always wear suitable clothing. Do not wear loose fitting clothing, necklaces, rings, bracelets or other jewellery. Always remove jewellery before using the appliance. Non-skid footwear and suitable work gloves are highly recommended whilst using the appliance.
Appliance specific safety instructions Always ensure that the feeding chamber is empty before starting the appliance. Keep your face and body away from the feed intake opening. Do not overload the appliance or feed excessive amounts into the intake as this will cause the appliance to malfunction. Always ensure the appliance is switched off and the cord of the appliance is unplugged before beginning any maintenance. After use, check the appliance for any damages.
Assembling the appliance 1. Turn the appliances main body on its head. 2. Insert the axel through both of the holes located on the foot. (Fig 3) 3. Place a spacer onto either end of the inserted axel. 4. Insert the wheels onto the axel. Ensure that the wheels are inserted the correct way so that the outsides of the wheels can fit the wheel cover. (Fig 5) 5. Place a spacer into the inner wheel and insert the split pin into the two ridges of the wheel so that the spacer stays in place. 6.
Before operating the appliance Always ensure that the black collection bag is attached to the body of the appliance by the hooks so that it collects the debris coming out of the discharge shoot. Examine the materials to be shredded before starting. Remove any debris or objects that are likely to become jammed or entangled in the blades of the appliance.
If the blades stall for more than 5 seconds a safety overload switch will operate and automatically turn the machine off. Before re-starting the appliance allow a cooling period of 1 minute. Press the overload switch and then push the on/off switch to re-start the machine. If the cutting mechanism of the appliance strikes a foreign object or if the appliance starts making any irregular or unusual vibrations or noise immediately switch off the appliance and allow the cutting means to stop.
Operating the appliance Plug the appliances cord into the mains and switch the power supply on. Press the mains switch to on (this is marked by the “1” symbol). Feed the material you wish to be shredded into the corner of the in-feed chute. If the material is too bulky the shredder will not allow it to pass through. If the material is the correct size it will be drawn into the blades. Please note that long material extending out from the cutting blades present a hazard.
Starting and stopping the shredder Press the switch marked “1” to start the appliance. Press the switch marked “0” to stop the appliance. Press the “circuit breaker” button if the machine does not switch on, this will ensure that you have the correctly connected the power supply. The circuit breaker will become activated when one of the following has occurred: There is a build up of material around the cutting disc. If the material being shredded exceeds the size of the motor capacity.
Replacing the blades of the appliance Note: Please wear work gloves when changing the blades. 1. Ensure that the appliance is switched off and the power cord is disconnected from the mains supply. 2. Remove the top of the appliance by unscrewing the “securing knob” located on the main body of the appliance. 3. The blades have two cutting edges, when the blades have become worn, reverse the blades to use the second cutting edge. 4. Lock the blade disc using a hex spanner.
Maintenance, cleaning and storage Note: Before beginning maintenance, repair and cleaning please ensure the appliance is switched off and the electrical cord is removed from the mains supply. When carrying out maintenance on the cutting blades, please be aware that the motor will not start due to the “interlock” feature of the guard however the cutting blades can still move if the motor is turned by hand. Never attempt to override the interlock feature of the guarding.
Symbols Warning: Read the instructions carefully before using the shredder and familiarize yourself with the controls and proper use of the equipment. Warning: Danger – Rotating blades. Keep hands, feet, hair and clothing away from the moving parts of the shredder. Do not reach into the feed opening or the discharge chute. The blades will continue to rotate for approx. 5 seconds after it has been switched. There is a risk that some objects could be thrown out by the shredder. Keep bystanders away.
Disposal of the appliance Please note that this Andrew James product is mark with this Symbol: This means that this product must not be disposed of together with ordinary household waste, as electrical and electronic waste must be disposed of separately. In accordance with the WEEE directive, every member state must ensure correct collection, recovery, handling and recycling of electrical and electronic waste. Private households in the E.U.
outside of the EU. All of our prices are inclusive of VAT. Once a product has been returned to us, we will aim to repair or replace it within 30 days of receipt. The guarantee does not cover any defect arising from improper use, damage, build-up of lime scale or repair attempts made by third-parties. Also, the guarantee does not cover normal wear and tear of individual parts.
Plug The plug must be protected by the correct AMP fuse; this will be indicated on the case of the plug. Only BSI or ASTA approved fuses should be used. When changing the fuse always replace it with a fuse that is of the same identical rating as the original. If you are unsure about which plug or fuse to use, always refer to a qualified electrician. Please note after replacing the fuse, ensure that the cover is correctly fitted back onto the plug.
