Section 6 – Displaying and Using the Point Description
CONFIG Screens
6.1 Overview
Engineers –
Read This
This section complements the Profit Optimizer Installation Reference and “Point
Builder” section of the APC Toolkit Manual. See that publication for a discussion
of transformation points and their use in a Profit Optimizer application.
For a new optimizer, the Configuration screens are blank (unless installation was
done using the EB Builder, or similar template).
Point names must be entered in the same point order that was used in the off-line
design.
It is acceptable, and recommended, that transformation points have the same
description entered on both the Interface Point and the Transformation Point
Configuration screens.
In This Section
This section shows sample Configuration displays, explains the fields, and tells
you how to work the screens. Read this section to find out how to:

Descriptions
Tag Names Synonymous with points, or point names, tag names often come
directly from, or follow the naming style customary to, piping and
instrumentation drawings (P&IDs), which tend to use cryptic naming
conventions. P&ID tag names are almost always represented in alpha numeric
characters, and they are not always adequately descriptive.
Graphics Descriptions In Profit Optimizer, descriptors are used in addition to
the tag name to characterize a point by some recognizable word or phrase,
usually to describe the point's location or purpose.
ENG Access
Giving descriptions to tag names typically requires ENG access.
