Automating the ISSU Process Using
Triggers
You will probably want to upgrade your software at a convenient time for your operation.
One possibility is to upgrade the CFCs during a time when technical staff are available and
use the automatic phase of ISSU to eliminate, or at least reduce, system downtime. Then
use triggers to apply the line card upgrades for a period when the network has either a
low usage, or a scheduled maintenance period.
In the following example, we assume that the automatic phase of ISSU has been
successfully completed, and that you want to use triggers to implement a reboot of your
line cards.
Step 1: Quantify the line cards that need to be upgraded
Use the following command to display summary information about the cards in your
switch or VCStack Plus.:
Output Figure 3: Example output from the show card command
Caution
ISSU trigger scripts that use any type other than “ISSU Completed” must
not place the switch into Configuration Mode.
