Surface Preparation
• Surface must be cleaned to remove all contaminants
including grease, oil, mildew, chalk, loose paint, and
other foreign matter that can impede adhesion.
• Clean the surface with a water-soluble cleaner and
rinse thoroughly. Allow to dry before coating
application.
• Sand wood surface with medium grit sandpaper to
achieve a sound stable natural surface.
• Concrete surfaces should have the appearance of 80
grit sandpaper before coating.
Application Instructions
Review product Application Guide before proceeding.
Contact Ames Research Laboratories Technical Service
Department for questions pertaining to the coating system
application and required coating film thickness. Conduct a
test patch to ensure proper adhesion. Elasto-Barrier® is a
recommended primer when waterproofing is needed.
Apply between 50 to 90 degrees F on warm, dry surfaces.
Surface of the substrate should be free of moisture or
condensation. No forecast of rain or freezing temperatures
for at least 24 hours after application.
Apply two coats by brush, roller, or drywall hopper sprayer.
Coverage will be approximately 150 sq. ft. per gallon per coat.
Drywall hopper sprayer will provide an even smooth surface
without need for back-rolling. Use 3/8” roller cover for
smooth surfaces. For rougher textured surfaces use a ½” to 1
¼” roller cover depending on surface texture. Be sure and
back brush or roll the wet material into the cracks of wood
to ensure a uniform appearance.
