Connect electrical power / Initial startup
Install wiring and electrically ground water heater in accordance with the
authority having jurisdiction or, in the absence of such an authority, follow the
National Electrical Code, NFPA 70, and/or CSA C22.1 Electrical Code-Part
ELECTRICAL SHOCK HAZARDTo ensure safety, turn off electrical pow-
er supply at service entrance panel before making any electrical connections
to avoid possible electric shock hazard. Failure to do so could result in prop-
erty damage, serious personal injury, or death.
A. WIRING INFORMATION
1. This water heater must be properly grounded. Ensure the electrical receptacle that the water heater will
be plugged into is properly grounded.
2. Do not attach the ground wire to either the gas or water piping

3. The wiring diagrams contained in this manual are to be used for reference purposes only.
4. Refer to these diagrams and the wiring diagrams of any external controls used with the installation when
wiring the water heater. Read, understand, and follow all wiring instructions supplied with the controls.
5. Do not disconnect the power supply when the water heater is in normal operation.
