WATER HEATER SOUNDS
1. Possible noises due to expansion and contraction of some
metal parts during periods of heat-up and cool-down do
not represent harmful or dangerous conditions.
2. Sediment buildup in the tank bottom will create varying
amounts of noise, and left in the tank, will cause premature
tank failure.
3. Condensation causes sizzling and popping within the
burner areas during heating and cooling periods and should
be considered normal. See Condensation.

DRAINING
The water should be drained if being shut down during
freezing temperatures. Also, periodic draining and cleaning of
sediment from the tank may be necessary. See Page 12.
1. Turn gas valve knob clockwise to the OFF position.
2. Close the cold water inlet valve to the heater.
3. Open a nearby hot water faucet.
4. Open the heater drain valve.
5. If the heater is going to be shut down and drained for an
extended period, the drain valve should be left open.
