MediaEndpointDiscoveryisanenhancementofLLDP,knownas
LLDP‐MED,thatprovidesthefollowingfacilities:
Auto‐discoveryofLANpolicies(suchasVLAN,Layer2Priorityand
Differentiatedservices(Diffserv)settings)enablingplugandplay
networking.
Devicelocationdiscoverytoallowcreationoflocationdatabasesand,in
thecase
ofVoiceoverInternetProtocol(VoIP),Enhanced911services.
ExtendedandautomatedpowermanagementofPoweroverEthernet
(PoE)endpoints.
Inventorymanagement,allowingnetworkadministratorstotracktheir
networkdevices,anddeterminetheircharacteristics(manufacturer,
softwareandhardwareversions,serialorassetnumber).
