Amdry Insulated Wall Panel (IWP) Expanded Installation Guide

droThis installation manual is intended to supplement rather than replace the basic construction

knowledge of the construction professional or installer. All projects built with the Amdry IWP

must be designed and installed in accordance with all building codes and or guidance of a licensed

professional engineer. In all cases, applicable building code regulations take precedence over this

manual.

It is extremely important that all the necessary safety precautions are observed and practiced with

the installation of the Amdry Insulated Wall Panel (IWP) system. Safety glasses, a dusk mask

(when cutting the Amdry IWP) and safety shoes are required during the installation process.

Tools required:

• Safety Glasses

• Safety Shoes

• Dusk mask or

construction respirator

• Circular Saw

• Jig Saw

• Hand saw

• Level

• T square

• Tape measure

• Drill and bits

• Hammer

• Utility knife

• Chalk Line and Plumb

Material Required

• Amdry Insulated Wall Panels (enough to complete project)

• Wood or steel framing material dimensions to be determined by

room configuration and R value desired. 2” x 4” for R14 or 2” x 6”

for R22.

• Fasteners for building material framing (nails or screws)

• 1 ¼” Corse Drywall screws

• Electrical wire for electrical outlets and switches for the entire

project.

• Electrical wire staples

• Electrical boxes for outlets and switches.

• Drywall tape

• Drywall compound

AmDry Installation Guide Note: To optimize the performance of the Amdry Insulated Wall panel it is recommend that they be installed along with the Amdry Insulated Subfloor Panel, www.amdrysubfloor.com. The Amdry Insulated System becomes a continuous thermal insulated assembly that provides outstanding moisture, drainage and drying properties for a healthier quieter and more comfortable basement environment.

AmDry Installation Guide Tip: to check that your top plate framing is installed at the proper angle in the corners, measure 2’ and mark on one side of the corner, measure and mark 3’ on the other side of the corner. The distance between the two marks on the top plate should read 5’ when measured across the angle.

AmDry Installation Guide Note: We recommend that the wall panels be cut in an open area preferably in a garage or outdoors to keep the dust to a minimum. The use of safety glasses and a dust mask is required during all cutting of the IWP. Once you have measured the IWP to the proper dimension using a circular saw cut the panel on the exterior (hard) surface side. Turn the panel over and cut the foam insulation to the same dimension. You will now need to cut out 1.5” (3.

AmDry Installation Guide dimension as in step # 8 remember to remove the 1.5” (3.81 cm) of foam where you have made the cut. You will not need to remove any foam form the side of the remaining panels until you come to the end of the wall or a jog out or in. Repeat step # 10 until to come to the end of the wall. Remember to tack the electric wire to all vertical studs as you are installing the IWP.

AmDry Installation Guide Window, Door and other openings 14) For window, door and other openings, measure the dimensions from the last installed panel to the area to be cut out. Mark these measurements on an IWP. Using a circular (or hand) saw cut this area out. The cut out area will need to have the foam recessed around the opening by 1.5” (381 cm) in order to be placed properly. 15) To frame the area of the cut out to accommodate attachment points measure this opening to the correct dimensions.

AmDry Installation Guide Electrical outlets and switches 17) Ensure your electrical outlet and switch placement is designed prior to starting your project. 18) Place the electric wire behind the bottom plates prior to installing any vertical corner studs. Attach the placed electric wire to each vertical stud as they are being installed by using code approved electrical staples 19) Electric outlets and switch boxes are secured to the vertical studs according to the local building code.

AmDry Installation Guide Taping and drywall finishing Once you have installed all the Amdry Insulated wall panels you can tape the joints and place the drywall compound as you would with any traditional drywall installation. With the rigid and secure finish of the Amdry IWP taping and drywall finishing is fast and easy.
