Chapter 10. Maintaining Your Controller
166 3ware Serial ATA RAID Controller User Guide
10 Uncompress the file to extract the driver or firmware files to a local
directory or a diskette.
(Make note of the absolute path to the local directory.)
11 Turn to the driver section for your operating system:
• For Windows, turn topage 172
• For RedHat Linux, turn to page 178
• For SuSE Linux, turn to page 179
• For FreeBSD, turn to page 181
Or, to update the firmware, turn to
• “Updating the Firmware Through 3DM 2” on page 166 (for any
operating system with a Windowing user interface)
• “Updating the Firmware Under Linux and FreeBSD” on page 182
(for command line instructions)
To make a driver diskette
If you want to create a driver diskette, extract the driver files to a floppy in
step 9 above. Refer to the user manual for your operating system for more
details.
Updating the Firmware Through 3DM 2
You can use 3DM 2 to update the 3ware RAID controller firmware for any
operating system that has a graphical user interface such as Windows or X
Windows.
To update the firmware through 3DM
1 Download the firmware update from the 3ware website. For details, see
“To download the driver or firmware” on page 165.
2 In 3DM 2, navigate to
Management > Controller Settings.
3In the
Update Firmware section of Controller Settings page, browse to
the location where you have saved the downloaded firmware update.
4 Click
Begin Update.
The 3ware RAID controller firmware is updated.
5 Power cycle your system for the firmware update to take effect.
If you are updating from release 9.4 (firmware version 3.06.x) or earlier
to release 9.4.1 (firmware version 3.07.x) or later, you will need to power
cycle your system--meaning that you must turn it all the way off and then
turn it on again, in order for your system to recognize the controller.
