To access the advanced settings, tap the menu button at the foot of the player window and open Settings. For video,
you will see the option to Disable HD purchase warning; when high denition videos are purchased on the Kindle
Fire by default a pop-up window is displayed, intended to prevent accidental purchases of videos that are more expen-
sive than their standard denition alternatives. Place a check in the box and click Back to disable this warning.
Meanwhile you can also Clear search history. This is effective for video searches only.
In the music player, meanwhile, the Settings screen offers a few more options. You can Enter a claim code from an
Amazon gift card and Clear cache – a useful option for speeding up search and playback of tracks. While music is
playing the Lock-screen controls will display playback controls on the Kindle Fire lock screen when checked while
Enable equalizer modes offers various presets for playing back music with the optimum settings.
Amazon Cloud Drive settings are also presented here, enabling you to decide whether to save purchases to Cloud
Drive or your tablet (the former is usually recommended) with Delivery preference or to use the Automatic Down-
load option to have everything downloaded.
Finally, Refresh Cloud Drive will update the display of what is currently in your Cloud Drive. Note that by default this
occurs every ten minutes.
Away from the advanced settings, you can also manage media les on your device from the Video and Music players.
With the tap-and-hold gesture you can display a context menu, enabling you to nd more information about the music
or video, nd similar items in the store and also remove the track from your device.
5.6 I Can’t Access Amazon Prime!
At the time of writing, the current status of Amazon Prime is that the Prime Instant Video service and the Cloud Drive
are unavailable to users outside of the USA.
This clearly presents problems when attempting to stream video to your tablet!
In order to successfully use these services you will need a US-based postal address and US-registered credit card.
