24 Using Amanda Portal’s SMTP Features
Amanda Portal can be configured to send voice messages, faxes, and message
notifications to email addresses using an SMTP server (normally the same SMTP server
you use to send out email messages).
This is done using Amanda Portal’s built in SMTP settings. Before attempting to use
these features, it’s important you know the name of the SMTP server your using to send
email. See the email system administrator for assistance.
The SMTP server may require authentification and MUST allow email messages to be
relayed from the server . To setup Amanda Portal to email your messages out run
Amanda Portal’s setup utility “Configure”, and modify the following settings:
email_user Used for SMTP server authentification when required by the
SMTP server.
email_password Used with the “email_user” setting, enter the password for the
account here.
smtp_from Normally, when Amanda posts email through an SMTP server, it
will use the mailbox number as the specific from. This parameter
will override that.
As a default, the from email address would be:
smtp_from@smtp_hostname
or
mailbox@computername
smtp_hostname Normally, when Amanda posts email through an SMTP server, it
will use the current computer's primary IP address to determine its
hostname. However, it may be desirable to use a different
hostname when posting email. If the configuration parameter
smtp_hostname is defined, then that value will be used as the
hostname in the From: address of the email and also in the SMTP
protocol interactions instead of the computer's primary hostname.
Optional, if left blank, the suffix for the received email will be the
computername. In some cases, the SMTP requires a .com or .net
on the end of the email address or it will be rejected.
smtp_server When using the send_smtp_mail command, Internet e-mail
messages are posted through this host. When set to
