the photon counter mode, reads, displays and
stores scan data, and can fit curves to experimental
results.
In this experiment, the program first sets the
photon counter mode by recalling the instrument
configuration from a disk file. Data is plotted in
real time, with the results of several scans being
averaged to reduce statistical noise. When the data
acquisition is complete, data reduction routines fit
an exponential to the decay curve to determine the
lifetime of the excited state. Finally, the data
curves are printed (see figure below ), and stored
to disk.
