Arria 10 PMA Architecture
The Physical Medium Attachment (PMA) acts as the analog front end for the Arria 10 transceivers.
The PMA receives and transmits high-speed serial data depending on the transceiver channel configura‐
tion. All serial data transmitted and received passes through the PMA.
Transmitter
The transmitter takes the parallel data and serializes it to create a high-speed serial data stream. The
transmitter portion of the PMA is composed of the transmitter serializer and the transmitter buffer. The
serializer clock is provided from the transmitter PLL.

Serializer
The serializer converts the incoming low-speed parallel data from the transceiver PCS or FPGA fabric to
high-speed serial data and sends the data to the transmitter buffer.
The channel serializer supports the following serialization factors: 8, 10, 16, 20, 32, 40, and 64.
