General Information General Information Variable Speed Mechanical Drive for Film Application The Resource I is a spring driven mechanical drive for film applicators. designed to assist in the preparation of films and coatings of uniform thickness. The apparatus is designed to accept a wire wound rod type film applicator. Other types of applicators (e.g. fixed clearance and adjustable clearance blade applicators) may be placed in front of the wire rod applicator.
Operation Operation A. Start with the carriage in the front of the machine. This is the end of the stroke position. B. Place test paper, chart or other substrate in position. 1. Grasp handle on rod clamp (used to hold substrate in place) and pull it toward you. 2. Slip chart or other substrate under rod clamp. Align top edge of substrate parallel with rod clamp. Be sure there is enough substrate area to assure clamp engagement. 3. Push handle away from you until a firm grip . is made with the chart.
Operation E. Wire rod position adjustments for various conditions. 1. The fine height adjustment knobs are located under the carriage. The adjustment screws are directly related to the micrometer dials. 2. There are two general positions available for the wire rod when making a draw-down. Which to use is determined by the characteristics of the material being applied, such as its viscosity, slip, and the surface condition of the test card or substrate.
Operation have been identified recetitive samples can be produced. F. The speed of carriage travel is a variable which is easily controlled by using the knob located on the top rear of the device. For consistent sample reproduction this speed cotrol setting should be established when running tests. G. To remove the test card and wire rod, reverse the operations outlined in sections B and D. It is a good housekeeping practice to immediately remove any residue and clean the wire rod and table top.
