Never Attempt the Following Correct Handling Do not grip or pull out the disc while it is being pulled back into the player by the automatic reloading mechanism. Do not attempt to insert a disc into the unit when the unit power is off. Do not drop the disc while handling. Hold the disc so you will not leave fingerprints on the surface. Do not affix tape, paper, or gummed labels to the disc. Do not write on the disc.
Tape Slack Check and make sure any slack in the tape is taken up before inserting the tape into the unit. A loose tape can get caught in the mechanism and cause damage to the unit and the tape itself. Tighten the tape by inserting a pencil or a similar instrument into the spindle hole and turn until all the slack has been taken up. Excessively Thin Tape C-120 type cassette tapes are not recommended for use in automobile tape players.
Basic POWER RESET Basic Operation Detaching the Front Panel 1 2 3 Press and hold the POWER button at least 3 seconds to turn off the power. Press the (Release) button at left side until the front panel pops out. Grasp the left side of the front panel and pull it out. NOTES • The front panel may become hot in normal usage (especially the connector terminals on the back of the front panel), this is not malfunction. • To protect the front panel, place it in the supplied carrying case.

Soon after resetting the unit or after turning the unit on the first time, the demonstration starts automatically. To cancel the demonstration, refer to “Demonstration” on page 10. Turning Power On and Off 1 Press the POWER button to turn on the unit.

Each press changes the band: → FM1 → FM2 → FM3 → MW → LW 3 4 Press the TUNE button to illuminate the DX and SEEK indicators in the display. With the DX (Distance) mode activated, both strong and weak stations will be tuned in the Auto-Seek operation.
Radio SOURCE A.ME BAND Preset buttons (1 through 6) Radio Operation Automatic Memory of Station Presets 1 2 3 Press the SOURCE button to select the radio mode. Press the BAND button repeatedly until the desired radio band is displayed. Press and hold the A. ME button for at least 2 seconds. The frequency on the display continues to change while the automatic memory is in progress. The tuner will automatically seek and store 6 strong stations in the selected band.
RDS SOURCE g DN f UP F AF RDS Operation Setting RDS Reception Mode and Receiving RDS Stations The RDS (Radio Data System) is a radio information system using the 57 kHz subcarrier of regular FM broadcast. The RDS allows you to receive a variety of information such as traffic information, station names, and to automatically re-tune to a stronger transmitter that is broadcasting the same programme.

When a traffic information station is tuned in, the TP indicator lights up. Traffic information is heard only when it is being broadcast.

Press the g DN and f UP buttons to select a traffic information station if necessary. • When a traffic information broadcast starts, the unit automatically mutes the CD player or the regular FM broadcast.
RDS 4 Press the P. PTY button to activate the PRIORITY PTY mode again. • To change the programme category, perform the step 3. • To disable the PRIORITY PTY function, press the P. PTY button. CD Music Sensor (Skip) M.I.X. (Random Play) 1 1 Momentarily press the g DN button once during CD play to return to the beginning of the current track. If you wish to access the beginning of a track further back, repeatedly press until you reach the desired track. Press the f UP button once to advance to the beginning of the next track. If you wish to access the beginning of a track further ahead, press repeatedly until the desired track is reached. To cancel M.I.X. play, press the M.I.X.
CD TUNE/ -/J g DN f UP MODE TITLE SETUP CD Player Operation (CDA-7876RB/CDA-7873R only) Displaying the Title/Text It is possible to display the CD title if the title has been previously inputted. For details, see Titling Discs (see this page). Text information, such as the disc name and the track name, will be displayed if playing a CD text compatible disc. 1 Press the TITLE button. The mode will change every time the button is pressed.
CD 5 6 Repeat the steps 3 and 4 above to complete the titling. Pressing the MODE (Audio Control) knob after entering the eighth character, automatically stores the title into memory. CD Text Scroll Setting This CD player has the ability to scroll the disc and track name recorded on CD-Text discs. The scrolling feature will work with names greater than 8 characters.
Cassette :/J c PROG g DN f UP NR B P.S.DN P.S.UP B.SKIP REPEAT SCAN Cassette Player Operation (TDA-7588RB/TDA-7587R only) Inserting/Ejecting Cassette 1 Insert a cassette tape into the slot with the open side facing right. 2 3 Press the :/J button to pause the tape playback. The display shows "PAUSE." Press again to resume the tape playback. Press the c button to stop the tape play and eject the cassette. The tape-direction indicator disappears.
Cassette Fast Forward and Rewind Programme Sensor (P.S.) 1 1 2 Press the g DN or f UP button during tape play to fast rewind or forward the tape respectively. The tape side indicator ( or ) blinks and >> or << moves indicating the direction of the tape. When the end of the tape is reached in the rewind mode, the player stops automatically and begins playing from the beginning of the same side.

Changer Fast Forward and Backward M.I.X. (Random) Play 1 1 Press and hold the g DN or f UP button to quickly move backward or forward respectively until you reach the desired portion. NOTE This feature works only in the CD playback mode. 2 Repeat Play on Single Track or Entire Disc 1 2 Press the "F" (Function) button. The function indicator at the top side of the "F" button will turn off.

The function indicator at the top side of the "F" button will turn off. Press the SCAN button to play the first 10 seconds of each track on the disc. The display shows the disc number, "SCAN", and track number being played during scan play. Press to the SCAN button to cancel scan play and resume normal play.

NOTES • When the memory capacity for the disc titles is used up, the display shows "FULL DATA" to indicate that no more title can be memorized. • When you want to erase a title, enter the " " symbol into all spaces.
